Bridging Cardiovascular Medicine with AI and Machine Learning

## **About me**

### **_Cardiac Surgeon – Researcher – Data-driven Medicine Enthusiast_**

I am a cardiac surgeon and clinical researcher at the University Hospital in Ancona, Italy.

For over two decades, I have combined clinical work in cardiac surgery with research on how data, algorithms, and human insight can coexist to improve patient care.

After graduating in Medicine and Surgery I specialized in Cardiac Surgery and earned a PhD in Cardiovascular Pathophysiology at the University of Rome _Tor Vergata_.

My professional path has evolved alongside the digital transformation of medicine. Early on, I designed clinical information systems for cardiac surgery units; today, my focus extends to **AI-assisted imaging**, **risk prediction modeling**, and **explainable machine learning** in cardiac surgery.

I believe that algorithms are not a replacement for clinical reasoning, but a way to make it more transparent, reproducible, and equitable.

Over the years, I have participated in or led multiple observational and interventional studies in cardiac surgery, contributing to research on antifibrinolytic strategies, perioperative management, operative risk estimation.

Alongside clinical and research work, I have also served as a lecturer in postgraduate programs on cardiac surgery and cardiovascular disease at the Univerisity of Rome Tor Vergata and Polytechnic University of the Marche.

**“Evaluating Large Language Models in Cardiology: A Comparative Study of ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini”**
Hearts, 6(3), 19.

This study systematically compares three leading AI language models in cardiology applications, evaluating their accuracy, completeness, and clinical relevance through blinded expert review. ChatGPT demonstrated superior performance, though all models showed room for improvement in specialized medical reasoning.
